Climate Neutral by 2050
Our vision to recreate the 4th phase of Strijp-S is rooted in these 4 principles: connection, cultural heart, revitalization and modularity. The mixed-use development tackles urban densification in Eindhoven while creating a human scale environment for starters. This beating, interconnected layer over Strijp-S rises as a sustainable landmark for the ever-growing city of innovation.
Formerly known as the ‘Forbidden City’ with limited access, Strijp-S is now the booming heart of Eindhoven in terms of development, setting an international example. With a masterplan that needs to be reconsidered, the 4th phase of Strijp-S offers the opportunity for a profitable plan, centered around culture, design and innovation. A green and soft-mobility oriented plan defines the urban intervention for an interconnected development.
The central focus of the redevelopment is on renovating the West Wing of the Microlab building, formerly a Philips TV factory in the industrial Strijp-S area. A moderate, yet vibrant intervention revitalizes this relict of the past production era and reframes the relationship between public and private space, opened and closed, old and new.
Living in Strijp-S has a new dimension. A low-rise, modular apartment building provides starters with flexible apartments for rent and for sale, all immersed in a green, human scale environment in-between the densifying Strijp-S area and the traditional Philips Dorp.
Becoming energy neutral by 2050, RECRE8/2 embodies a successful example of a qualitative, yet resilient and financially attractive approach. Relying on solar energy production and passive energy systems, the development works towards climate resilience and exploits the benefits of timber construction. Introducing new horizons for co-creation and public-private ownership, RECRE8/2 is attractive for owners, users, and the diverse involved parties.
